Dear UPCEA Mid-Atlantic Friends and Colleagues,
We’re so excited to welcome you to the 2021 Regions Week conference! As we have striven to serve our students in unprecedented circumstances and challenges over the last year, we want to acknowledge your remarkable dedication in adapting to these disruptions and creating solutions. In light of this experience, the Mid-Atlantic team has been focused on themes of disruption and change for the conference. While much of what we have experienced in the past year has been disorienting, we know that some positive innovations and changes have occurred during these times of adaptation, seen for example in the mass movements for social transformation to fight racism and other forms of prejudice. In many regards, we have demonstrated that we can implement change much more quickly than was previously considered possible or likely, including in institutions of higher education.
As we come together online this week at UPCEA Regions Week 2021, I look forward to being a part of this assembly of leaders and innovators, servants and problem-solvers, and those who continue to strive for the best for all those they engage. Though we’re not together in-person in one of the great cities or towns in the Mid-Atlantic Region this year, we can still appreciate the words of one of Philadelphia’s most famous sons, Benjamin Franklin, who observed “Change is the only constant in life. One’s ability to adapt to those changes will determine your success in life.”
