The 2022 Distance Teaching & Learning (DT&L) Conference will be held virtually August 3-5, 2022. UPCEA is proud to present the 2022 DT&L in partnership with the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Since 1985 the annual Distance Teaching & Learning Conference has provided a welcoming and transformative professional development experience for individuals working in the field of distance and online education – from faculty and instructors to instructional designers and administrators. The program focuses on addressing the rapidly changing online and technology-enhanced learning landscape with the most current topics, technologies, and innovations that inform best practices.

Please note, you must complete and submit the proposal form in one attempt. You’ll be provided a template that you can use to complete your proposal prior to submitting it.
Exploratory (45m concurrent session)
Bring a big question, new idea, or useful strategy to the conference and move the conversation forward with the power of collective knowledge. Presenters should provide activities, group learning exercises, or other techniques that leverage the virtual environment to engage and involve participants. Exploratory sessions will take place in a virtual room with interactive features and breakout rooms.
Roundtable discussion (45m concurrent session)
Host a conversation on a current topic of interest or a book that you’ve authored within the past 18 months. Up to 2 co-presenters will provide a 10 minute overview, then facilitate a conversation with all participants via audio and video. Conversations will be managed to ensure maximum interaction for all attendees.
Panel (45m concurrent session)**
Collaborate with 2-3 panelists from different organizations to discuss a shared strategy, problem, or innovation. Panels are facilitated by a moderator; each panelist will be given 5-7 minutes to share their experience, followed by a solutions-focused conversation with the audience. Attendees may ask questions via chat.
Note: If you select workshop, panel, or research as your format, you will receive additional survey questions. All session formats require proposal content, key takeaways, and focus and audience information. We reserve the right to assign your session format to best suit the conference's needs.
We are interested in proposals on a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to:
Proposals will be selected to ensure the Conference offers a comprehensive, noncommercial, objective, and diverse program. Attention will be given to diversity of institutions, presenters and geographic location.
All proposals will be peer-reviewed and evaluated on these criteria:
Practical methods and techniques that others can use and apply
Clear learning goals and key takeaways
Relevance to the field of distance education and online learning
Depth of knowledge conveyed related to distance teaching, learning, and training
Inclusion of evaluation data and/or established theoretical models
Evidence of successful outcomes or lessons learned
If your proposal is accepted, you agree:
to submit the required proceedings paper(s) no later than Friday, July 1
to register for the conference by Friday, July 1
to provide electronic versions of resource materials/handouts for attendees by Tuesday, July 19
to attend a training session (dates TBD)
that if stated deadlines are not met, the conference organizers reserve the right to select an alternate presentation in its place.
