Newcomers' Welcome

If this is your first UPCEA event or if you are an UPCEA veteran, don’t miss the chance to network and welcome other attendees at the Newcomers’ Welcome. This session is designed to help you make the most of this year’s Salon and includes networking, knowledge sharing, and tips on how to make the most out of your UPCEA membership.

11:00 AM PT Welcome
11:10 AM PT Presentation: The New Adult Learner: Actionable Insights
In the post-pandemic world, the New Adult Learner will be the difference on whether colleges and universities thrive or survive. To better prepare our members, Jim will present the results of a meta-analysis UPCEA and corporate partner sponsored research on the New Adult Learner. The research will show the complexities of the adult learner and the breadth of segments they represent. Jim will offer insights on motivating factors, delivery and credential preferences, support services and needs and how these might relate to marketing, recruitment and retention. In a competitive market, understanding the differences of the many adult learner segments is critical to institutional success.

  • Jim Fong, Founding Director, UPCEA Center for Research and Strategy
12:00 PM PT Regions Respond: Reflect, Network, Synthesize
Repond Sessions are informal, facilitated, two-way, small group, unrecorded conversations that are heavy on networking and connecting, light on didactic which allow attendees to reflect on general session presentations with peers. Hosted simultaneously after both plenary presentations of the salon, facilitated by members of the UPCEA West Planning Committee. Attendees can expect a warm welcome, a chance to meet other UPCEA members, and an opportunity to reflect, informally, on the content shared in the plenary presentation sessions.
12:30 PM PT Break
12:40 PM PT Panel: The Alternative Credentials Landscape
In this dynamic, facilitated panel discussion, learn from PCO leaders how they are building the case for alternative credentials on their campuses, leveraging legacy structures and policies, partnering internally and externally to address workforce needs, and cultivating quality across non-degree credentials. Audience questions will play a critical role in this conversation—bring yours!
