Session Format Descriptions

A Program Showcase provides a platform for exceptional programming to be highlighted via a hybrid format which is part panel presentation, part facilitated conversation. Presenters in these unique, 60-minute concurrent sessions will have the opportunity to share, briefly, information about what makes his/her respective program so essential, via panel format, and then engage in robust, facilitated audience Q&A and/or table-based conversations.

UPCEA Talks are short, succinct idea introductions of no more than ten minutes given by solo or pairs of presenters with limited or delayed audience discussion. These talks are organized around the most pressing issues facing UPCEA members today and sequenced with other short talks during one, 60-minute concurrent session. Part “TED Talk,” part “speed dating,” part “elevator speech,” UPCEA Talks are designed to provide quick dissemination of cutting edge information on the hottest of topics.

Research Roundtables are table-based, small-group, guided discussions about a specific and timely topic, question, or issue facing professional, continuing, or online education. During one, 60-minute concurrent session, Research Roundtable presenters share their experiences and ideas and promote the sharing of thoughts, solutions, and questions among their respective tables’ attendees. Designed to provide space and time to important but particularly nuanced topics which deserve attention, Research Roundtables provide opportunities for members to hone presentation skills and for attendees to access scholarly topics and the practitioners who examine them.

A Workshop is a deep dive wherein participants are actively, tangibly engaged in their learning, via collaboration and hands-on interaction. Workshop presenters generally spend less than half of the 60-minute session sharing their ideas and information, followed by a planned activity that promotes interaction and discussion, generally ending with a takeaway for participants.

A Case Study provides an in-depth look at a problem or opportunity of considerable scale and impact, designed to maximize attendee learning via real-world presenter experiences. Case Study presentations involve an introduction to the problem/opportunity, the planning and execution phase of the process, a description of the stakeholders and the overall goal, as well as eventual outcomes, successes, failures, and setbacks.

A Presentation features a pair or panel of presenters who share a cohesive series of ideas followed by a robust discussion with the audience. Presentations typically involve multiple organizations and/or international partners, as well as content which may be scaled or optimized by attendees from a wide range of institutions and credit-bearing scenarios (credit, noncredit, alternative credential, etc.).

All concurrent sessions are 60-minutes and will offer projector, screen, microphone, and internet access.
