The 2021 UPCEA Institutional Representatives Annual Briefing, hosted as a pre-conference workshop in advance of the 2021 Annual Conference, provides an opportunity for senior leaders in professional, continuing, and online education (PCO) to connect with peers, to be briefed on the most pressing topics of our field today, and to discuss together ways each can be best positioned for the future. This year’s briefing will begin with a presentation on cutting-edge benchmarking data, fueled by the UPCEA Center for Research & Strategy. Following this presentation will be a lively panel discussion featuring senior PCO leaders representing various types of institutions, concluding with small group discussions and ample time for audience questions.

The 2021 Briefing will address ways PCO can position for the future. The world has now breached a year of suffering in a global pandemic. With increased testing and more vaccines coming out in 2021, society will begin to normalize, or at least operate more consistently, including our K-12 and higher education systems. In many ways, the pandemic is a societal domino that as it fell, knocked over several others in the process, including the dominoes of economic stability, the K-12 system, and higher education. Learners have had to adapt to changes in technology, pedagogical approaches, access issues, and personal challenges, and as a result, colleges and universities, including their PCO units, need to pivot to incoming learners’ expectations and situations, including overall student readiness, but also creating new educational pathways to an automatic, touchless economy.
