International Track

As rapidly evolving technologies contribute to a “shrinking world,” the internationalization of education continues to advance at an ever-faster pace. Many higher education institutions at home and abroad are actively engaged in the development and implementation of programs that cross national borders.  UPCEA members are expanding study abroad and exchange programs that involve students and faculty, orchestrating the intensive study of English as a second language, establishing and administering branch campuses in new countries, hosting international delegations, and negotiating contracts for the delivery of programs to new international audiences. In this dynamic environment we have a unique opportunity to “Own the Moment” and collectively chart the course for the future of international education.

Proposals for this track might include (but are not limited to) the following topics:

  • The role of professional, continuing, and online education units in the internationalization of their institutions
    • Making a case for pursuing international goals via professional, continuing, and online education units
    • Successful funding and/or administrative models
  • Global competencies in international education
  • The development of customized programs for international delivery
  • Lessons learned and best practices associated with successful programs
  • Curriculum models for international programs
  • Technology in the delivery of international programs
  • Leveraging Miami’s unique role as a hinge between the U.S. and Latin America, programs or activities that involve Latin American themes or collaborations with Latin American partners
  • International 101 for professional, continuing, and online education units:  introductory concepts, principles, and practices for getting involved in international professional, continuing, and online education activities
