Program Management and Innovation Track

Professional, continuing, and online education units have long been recognized for their resourcefulness, open mindedness, and willingness to think creatively.  Entrepreneurial and creative minds are best able to respond to the changing realities of higher education and can lead the way in program innovation to serve changing demographics and workforce needs.  As traditional campuses look to these units for guidance and leadership, we are well poised to “own this moment” in the evolution of higher education.

What planning and execution strategies does your unit deploy to “own the moment” in program management and innovation?

We invite proposals on the following topics, or on topics that demonstrate ways in which institutions are seizing the moment with program planning, development, implementation and assessment:

  • Developing partnerships
    • Seeking the “right” partnerships for your institution
    • Inter-college/university collaborations
  • Program Innovation
    • What makes a program innovative?
    • Making an innovative program a successful program
    • Inspiring innovation on your campus
    • Organizational structures to assess and support innovative programs
  • Exploring Competency-Based Education
    • Incorporating competency-based learning in curricular development
    • PLA in program development
    • Serving adult learners
  • Business Models for Success
    • Revenue-sharing models
    • Partnerships and collaborations
    • Incorporating open source education and resources
    • Identifying new markets, new audiences
    • Assessing potential and planning for success
    • Creating nimble organizational structure
    • Supporting just-in-time programming
  • Best Practices in Program Management
    • Planning, design, and implementation
    • Assessment and metrics

Proposals with innovative delivery formats are highly encouraged, ex: creative and innovative role-playing, or the incorporation of a “petting zoo” format, or perhaps a “world café” structure, or co-presentation with an external partner. Leveraging Miami’s unique role as a hinge between the U.S. and Latin America, proposals are also sought which highlight programs or activities that involve Latin American themes or collaborations with Latin American partners. Selected proposals will also provide tangible take-a-ways and afford members with ideas that could be implemented at their institutions.
