Emerging Leaders Program

The world of Continuing Education is changing at an ever increasing rate.  In light of advanced technology, more immediate communication, globalization and higher expectations of the constituencies that we serve, it is imperative that leaders within our respective organizations be empowered to meet the challenges and opportunities that will be presented.  The Emerging Leaders program is designed to assist our professionals achieve greater insight, efficiency and effectiveness in much the same manner as what we provide for our clients.  This program will enhance our professionals’ ability to lead teams that perform a myriad of activities while supporting one common goal of Continuing Education.  We sincerely hope you will avail yourself of this opportunity to learn and grow in your service of others.

The Emerging Leader preconference, special sessions, and post-conference follow-up activities are free.


General Components

  • Defining  who you are – personality, perception and awareness
  • Strengths – using your strengths to enhance the workplace and your team
  • Core Values – identifying your driving forces
  • Communication – the vital communication components – especially you!
  • Vision and mission – setting our course collectively and independently
  • Your employees and peers– expectations, motivation, teamwork, coaching
  • Your customers – internal and external
  • PEP - Professional Enhancement Program
  • Follow through and follow up - accountability

The participants will agree on a project on which they will collaborate throughout the year.  At next year’s conference, they will present their results.  Additionally, we will schedule quarterly accountability meetings via technology.  Participants will also be encouraged to set up a site where they can communicate on a regular basis.

Emerging Leader Facilitator

Melinda Stallings, M.A., brings to her interactions a rich mixture of knowledge, business acumen, organizational psychology concepts, and real-world tools to transform individuals and organizations. With a bachelor's in business administration and a Master's in industrial/organizational psychology, she combines the disciplines to really get to the heart of "the why's of people and the how's of the organization."

With over 15 years of research and experience in the field of leadership from a positive perspective, Melinda communicates real life solutions to overcoming conflict and enabling positive change in organizations. As a lead instructor for the Management Leadership Institute at LSU Continuing Education, Melinda has worked with organizations of all sizes, and has gained special insight into the challenges and rewards of the continuing education enterprise. She has built an international following as a great communicator, listener, thought generator and greatness enabler. Melinda's motto is "live in possibilities and transform them into realities."
