Michael MunsonContinuing Education Student Award - Michael Munson. University of Maine

UPCEA’s New England Region 2015 Continuing Education Student Award recognizes a student enrolled in an undergraduate program offered through a division of continuing education who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and an unusual will to learn, not only to enhance his/her own career, but also to add to the quality of life for him/herself, the family and community.

Completing his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maine in Orono after 27 years in infrastructure management, Mr. Munson has been described as an “academically curious scholar” and one who “exemplifies the true courage of our non-traditional student population and the wealth of knowledge they possess.” His love of history is evident in his capstone project, The Arnold Mission to Quebec: A History and Sense of Place of Maine Committees in the Kennebec and Dead River Watersheds a documentary film of key locations from Benedict Arnold’s march through Maine.


Allan RoscoeContinuing Education Faculty Award (Posthumous Award) – Professor Allan Roscoe. University of Massachusetts - Lowell

UPCEA’s New England Region 2015 Continuing Education Faculty Award recognizes a continuing education faculty member for outstanding teaching (credit or noncredit). Criminal Justice Professional. Role Model. Mentor. Advisor. Friend. These words are but a few that describe the incredible impact that Professor Allan Roscoe, Faculty Coordinator and Advisor, for the University of Massachusetts - Lowell Online and Continuing Education Division had on his students. Professor Roscoe spent 41 years in intelligence and national security yet found his passion in teaching. He taught in the MS in Criminal Justice program and helped to create the fully accredited online undergraduate certificate in Security Management and Homeland Security.

Innovative and Creative Programming Award (Credit Program) – The China Program Center . University of Massachusetts - Boston.

UPCEA’s New England Region 2015 Innovative and Creative Programming Award (Credit Program) honors the individual and institution demonstrating innovative and creative programming which contribute to the success of Continuing Education and/or community education programs.  

The China Program Center’s Fulbright –Hays Group Program Abroad (GPA) led by Wanli Hu, Ph.D., seeks to advance scholarly and business collaborations between China and America through innovative programs including practical training, trade missions, government exchanges and joint academic ventures. The China Program Center’s long term and short term Fulbright –Hays GPAs provides a dynamic laboratory of cultural exchange. The program exposes students to new ways of thinking and skills centered on language, Chinese culture, the promotion of American culture and social networking. The short term track facilitates the evolution of curriculum and training for secondary and primary school teachers of Chinese language.


Engagement Award – Center for Innovation and Excellence in eLearning (CIEE). University of Massachusetts – Boston.

UPCEA’s New England Region 2015 Engagement Award recognizes an outstanding knowledge partnership between a member institution and one or more external constituents such as local communities, corporations, government organizations, or associations. CIEE engages individuals and organizations. CIEE has demonstrated a commitment to public knowledge sharing through ongoing participation in local and international conferences, forums, and symposia that address the need to advancement in eLearning tools and best practices. It has also taken on the task of community builder through the development of an open source, peer-reviewed journal in the spirit of inclusive research. It is however, the Center’s relentless dedication to serve as the conduit in all aspects of its work and take on research projects large and small to ensure a more critical and efficient approach to online learning.


Carol WilliamsOutstanding Service to Continuing Education Award - Dr. Carol Williams (Retired Associate Dean). Eastern Connecticut State University

UPCEA’s New England Region 2015 Outstanding Service to Continuing Education Award recognizes a continuing education faculty member for outstanding teaching. During Dr. William’s 35 years of service to the School of Continuing Education at Eastern Connecticut State University as Associate Dean and four time acting Dean, she has been a “tireless advocate for adult and non-traditional students.” Notable accomplishments during Dr. Williams’ tenure includes being named as “Outstanding Higher Education Professional” by the University Of Connecticut School Of Education Alumni Society, American Associations of University Women’s “Outstanding Woman of the Year in 1997”and has been a previous UPCEA award winner. Her work stewarding a “Reverse Internship” granting college credits through a portfolio assessment helps students build on prior work experiences to fast track into college. Dr. Williams lives up to her tenants “Recognize who you are actually supposed to be serving and always have that in mind when you make decisions.”
