Reflecting the need for continuing education professionals to connect with their profession, connect with each other, connect with relevant content and best practices, connect new information with their campuses through practical application, help students connect with their institutions, connect in meaningful ways with current and future students, connect with one another, and connect with UPCEA, the theme for the 2016 Central Region conference is Making Connections in Continuing, Professional, and Online Education.
The theme also reflects our desire to not only connect the next generation of higher education leaders to new content and colleagues, but to help our campuses connect with their communities as they face an ever-changing economic, political, social, and cultural landscape.
Finally, the conference theme reflects the connecting function that UPCEA has taken at both the regional and national levels by connecting professionals to research, best practices, professional development, and leadership opportunities in continuing, professional, and online education.
Professional and continuing education providers continue to sit in the pole position as we race toward providing greater access to higher education by addressing issues of applicability/industry relevance, affordability, flexibility in delivery, individualized instruction, competency-based curricula, data-driven student services, etc. We invite you to join us in the great city of Indianapolis to celebrate past victories, share insights, and develop strategies for leading your campus to victory lane.
We intend to structure the conference in a way that promotes reflection, exchange of insights, and the creation of practical, actionable plans for attendees to bring back to their campuses and communities. In addition, with an improved emerging leader program, more general sessions/shared experiences from which to choose, and plenty of opportunities for connecting with colleagues and planning with teammates, this year’s conference promises to offer a mix of fast-paced learning opportunities, planning/work time, and frequent pit stops.
Whether you are an emerging professional, continuing, and/or online education professional or are deeply connected to the profession already, we invite you to connect with your UPCEA Central Region colleagues on October 17-19. We are looking forward to (re-)connecting with you in Indy.
With Kind Regards,
Steve VandenAvond, Northern Michigan University
Chair, 2016 UPCEA Central Region
